The Boat - Tiger Shark

 ​'Tiger Shark' is a custom designed and purpose built plate aluminum fishing boat locally manufactured by Black Marlin Fabrications right here in South East Queensland and operates under a Certificate of Operation issued by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA)
​The boat features a centre console design with a T-top (canopy) and bench seat on the front deck which maximizes deck space for fishing while still providing protection from the Sun as well as a seating option and is powered by an eco-friendly 2022 model 140HP Suzuki four-stroke outboard engine

How the boat got its name

On the 15th November 2018,
Kyle, the owner/operator of Caloundra Guided Fishing Charters & Island tours was offshore kayak fishing when a
4 metre Tiger Shark bit and sunk his Kayak a mile off the coast of Caloundra
With the kayak underwater Kyle was in the open ocean with a Tiger Shark
Using a waterproof handheld VHF radio which was attached to his life vest Kyle sent a 'mayday' call to the Caloundra Coast Guard
​Kyle spent 40minutes in the open ocean before being picked up by lifesavers on jetskis, a helicopter located the submerged kayak which was later retrieved by the Queensland Water Police

The story made the international news and the lifesavers received a national award for their involvement in the rescue and Kyle has regular catch ups with the lifesaver who rescued him as they are now great mates
